Jamie Lee Haden-Guest, Baroness Haden-Guest (born November 22, 1958), universally known by her maiden name as Jamie Lee Curtis, is an American film actress born in Los Angeles, California. She is the daughter of actors Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh. She is known as a "scream queen" for arguably her most memorable role, that of Laurie Strode in the Halloween series—in the first, as well as Halloween II, Halloween H20: 20 Years Later and Halloween: Resurrection. Jamie Lee Curtis has compiled a body of work which covers every type of genre, from comedy to drama to horror.
She married the actor Christopher Guest in 1984, and became Lady Haden-Guest when her husband inherited the Barony of Haden-Guest in 1996. Curtis and Guest have two adopted children, Annie and Thomas.
Recent successful film roles for Curtis have included Disney's Freaky Friday (2003), opposite Lindsay Lohan. The movie was filmed at Palisades High School in Pacific Palisades, CA., nearby where Curtis and Guest make their home with their children.
Today, Jamie Lee Curtis also takes time to support various philanthropic groups. Curtis was Guest of Honor at the 11th annual Gala and Fundraiser in 2003 for Women in Recovery, Inc., a Venice, CA-based non-profit organization offering a live-in, twelve-step program of rehabilitation for women in need. Past Honorees of this organization have included Sir Anthony Hopkins; the 2005 honoree was Angela Lansbury.
Her sister, Kelly Curtis, is also an actress.
While her film career saw its ups and downs, so did her personal life. Jamie Lee dabbled in some drugs and alcohol, and made peace with her father once they shared the same habit. That only lasted until she decided to become sober in 1984.
As for romance, Jamie Lee was previously engaged to J. Michael Riva and dated rocker Adam Ant, but soon after she broke off with Ant, she met British actor Christopher Guest. Jamie Lee had seen Guest's picture in an issue of Rolling Stone and was immediately smitten. She pursued him and the two finally married in 1984, at Rob Reiner's home.
The couple founded the company Syzygy Industries soon after their marriage, and have homes in Los Angeles and Sun Valley, Idaho. Jamie Lee and Christopher adopted their two children Annie and Thomas, and in addition to being named Lady Haden-Guest (after her husband was elevated to Lord Christopher Haden-Guest), Jamie Lee is also the author of the children's book, When I Was Little: A Four-Year-Old's Memoir of Her Youth. She has also reconciled with her father Tony.
Whatever way you remember her, she has become an entrenched figure in Hollywood, even if the quantity and quality of her body of work doesn't justify her popularity.
